Enjoying University Life

Cao, a student from China who finished studying at YIEA in 2024, came back to visit YIEA during his university summer vacation.

Cao is now a second-year student at Teikyo University. For six months until this month, he studied at Yamagata University as part of his university training program.

YIEA: How was Yamagata?

Cao: Yamagata has beautiful nature and good food. Everyone was very kind. I really enjoyed my time there. I would like to go there again.

YIEA: From next year, you will start job hunting, so you may be busy. What do you want to do before then?

Cao: I want to make more Japanese friends and enjoy university life with them. I want to experience how Japanese university students spend their free time. For example, I would like to go to amusement parks with my girlfriend…

YIEA: Do you have any advice for students who are studying Japanese?

Cao: Talk to many Japanese people. The most important thing is to start talking by yourself!

If you don’t have many Japanese people around you, join events at your university or local ward office. Try to find chances to speak Japanese. These experiences are very important.

Cao’s Japanese has become very natural. His pronunciation, intonation, and word choices sound like a Japanese person’s.

When Cao was studying at YIEA, he sometimes talked with his teachers when he had worries about his studies or future. Now, we can see that he is really enjoying his university life.

To all students who are working hard to study Japanese, keep going and do your best to reach your goals!

It was great to see my teachers again after a long time!

What a great smile!
