What is Day of the Ox?

2021.07.28Culture & Seasons

Doyō-Day of the Ox is about 18 days before the beginning of summer, autumn, winter, and spring, and has nothing to do with Saturday. Also, in the old calendar, the days were counted in the zodiac, so it means the day of the Ox during the earthen period. This summer’s Day of the Ox is July 28, but it is customary to eat eels on this day. Originally, eels are delicious in the greasy winter, but there is a strong theory that a person named Hiraga Gennai used to spread eating eels on this day because of the poor sales of eel shops.
